I'm looking for information about a safe that is in a building I purchased. I was unable to find a serial number or brand name on it. I do have some photos of the dial, hinges, latches, etc. Herring Hall Marvin safe. Each with a pin indicating a number and it allows it. You need to acquire a Herring-Hall Marvin 'change key' and the instructions to. Herring Hall Marvin Safe Company. Herring Hall Marvin is an AWE facility for 1943-1993 and a DOE facility for 1995. Workers during the AWE years are eligible for Part B claims and workers during the DOE year are eligible for both Part B and Part E claims.

I have recently become the owner of a 2 ton concrete-lined Herring HAll Marvin Safe measuring approximately 25.5' deep, 27.5' wide and 43' tall.

This unwieldy bastard was open when I came across it and like a dumb ass, I yanked the crank. I'm sure you all know what happened next, it locked. At least I was only 1/2 the dumb ass I could have been, it locked open.

But now I am left wondering what my next steps are. Calling a locksmith is fine, but he'd have to come on site as I am not going to be able to lift it again without damaging an already borrowed lift truck.

The brass plate on the inside of the door looks like it will come off easily enough. Would I be able to see enough of the inner workings to open the lock by removing that panel, or is that only the first step of 20 before I get it understood or set to a new combination?

Also, does anyone know much about these particular safes? How many numbers are in the combination, how many turns between each number, anything like that?

I can host some pics later on when I get a chance, but it is identical in every way to this one on Ebay.

Anyone have any ideas as to where to start? The dial turns freely, the hinges work, It's just locked open.
